Holidays in India’s Jammu – A Little Guide to Help You!

For foreigners who wish to squeeze the maximum out of their trip to India, a visit to the country’s city of temples, Jammu is a must. The city is relatively less explored, at least by foreign tourists and offers a spectacular range of cultural and religious attractions which people would have otherwise missed anywhere else in India.

How to Get There

After disembarking flights at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, holiday makers can either plan their journey to Jammu by train or by flight. A number of domestic airlines offer flights from Delhi to Jammu and multiple services are offered in a day. Flights between the two destinations take a little over an hour.

As far as train services to Jammu are concerned, a number of options are available for people from Delhi. The Indian capital has many railway stations and most of the major ones offer trains to the city of temples. New Delhi Railway Station is the most popular one. Tourists can book tickets online or can purchase them directly from the station.

Also, tourists can travel to the northern Indian city by car or bus. Being a long journey, the road travel maybe a little tiring for people, however, it allows them to enjoy the views of the scenic route.

Attractions in Jammu

The city is mostly visited as a pilgrim destination. Foreigners will find a lot of domestic tourists in Jammu who have visited from different parts of India. Vaishno Devi Temple is easily the biggest attraction in the city. The temple sits high on the mountains. A long, tiring walk to the top of the mountain towards the temple is said to be a form of prayer towards the Mother Goddess. Raghunath Temple, Bahu Fort & Gardens, Mahamaya Temple, Gauri Kund and Patnitop are some other attractions that tempt holidaymakers to seek tickets on flights or train and get to the city.

Hotels in Jammu

Jammu is not a very big city. People looking for world-class 5-star properties might be left underwhelmed. However, there are different quality hotel options in and around the city which people will enjoy. On the other hand, cheap and mid-range hotels are in great numbers.
